Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Consistent with a long-term respectful culture, it is unwise to implement artificial intelligence (AI) with the goal of replacing people. AI (and the addition of technology in general) should be incorporated in ways that truly assist employees. Put succinctly, AI is something you do to help people. That means some of the better thoughts on how to use AI will come from employees.
An application in manufacturing might be real-time optimization suggestions to improve production rate, uptime and yield. That is, use AI to generate real-time ideas to improve efficiencies. Within the continuous improvement field, we refer to the resulting metric as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). An experienced operator could review the suggestions and implement those that make sense.
